    There is no time limit established by law for a private business, that is determined by each store’s policy.

    For those using VHS tapes, I see as little as 7 days, up to 30 days. However, digital video is getting more common, so storage is not an issue, so they can keep the video files much longer.

    Most in my district keep a rolling set for 30 days. They assume that, if crimes are commited, or any other need, will show up within 30 days. Because they are real time, 30 days is a lot of tapes.

    anywhere from a day or so to forever.

    depends on the store and the technology they are using at any given time.
